Some of you MSTies may have heard the game Escape Velocity has an easter egg that’s a reference to the forklift song…I found a plugin for it that enabled the weapon by default and decided to show it off (while promptly killing myself in the process). I ran this in Basilisk II, an excellent Mac emulator.

Oh dang the best part about this was way you enabled this easter egg (other than the weapon itself which was waaayyy too fantastic I loved it) was by like… holding down x then pressing the title I think? And then like a set of parody lyrics for the MST3k theme came up about the programmer staying up too late to work on the game and scrolled past, ending with Tom Servo going “He tried to kill me with a forklift!” and going back to the title screen, gosh what memories. Haha I love this game, I totally wish Escape Velocity Nova had this easter egg (or that i could get Escape Velocity original to work in Nova theoretically there’s a way I just… can’t quite get it to work though I should have all the required parts I am not good at computer)

The forklift took a little getting used to as a weapon, definitely better long-range haha. I am not good at games which is why I heavily relied on it and got used to using it a lot…

You have to hold down the Apple key on a Mac while clicking the logo and then you get the MST3K parody lyrics, then you press Command + Apple + whatever key replaces Alt on a Mac keyboard and F and hold them at the end of the lyrics when the date appears and then the soundbite of the forklift song plays.

I wish Ambrosia would put the damn game on Steam because it costs $30 for the game’s activation code and they’re practically dead because nobody is buying it.

Ah, yeah, that sounds right. It’s been a few years since I’ve had our old computer up from the basement that has Escape Velocity on it, my new machine only has Nova because I shelled out the 30 bucks some years ago for it

Augh, I know! A few of their other older games are on Steam, is there some like rights thing I’m not aware of with the Escape Velocity series and why it’s not there?

I have no idea. They just said “We looked into it and it’s not something we want to do at the moment” on Twitter and it’s kind of dumb. Is it that hard?

BOGUS. Maybe they don’t think there’s enough demand or something? I almost want to go send a tweet to them now asking about it…

I think that’s a collared dove - or at least that’s what we call birds like that over here.

Oh yeah, it is, it’s just a new color variant I hadn’t seen before

Like here’s one set of photos and here’s another showing the standard color range I see (the second set has the dark color variant one I see with the darker-colored tail feathers and face)

VARIATION WOO

Happy Batman Day! There may only be one “caped crusader”, but did you know there are about 1300 different kinds of bats worldwide? They may not be fighting crime, but they sure are busy making the world a better place by pollinating our crops and taking care of pesky insects.
Bats live almost everywhere on Earth, except for the most extreme desert and polar regions. So chances are, there are bats where you live. Let’s meet a few of these superheroes of the nocturnal animal world in the Pacific Region.
Photo 1 - Marianas fruit bat: lives in Guam’s limestone forests and can have a wingspan of up to 3.5 feet! These gentle giants are important for pollinating and dispersing seeds of popular tropical fruits like coconut, papaya, and figs. Photo credit: Julia Boland/USFWS
Photo 2 - Townsend’s big-eared bat: Aptly named, their ears are over an inch long. That may seem small to you, but that’s a quarter of their entire body length! Can you imagine having ears almost a foot and a half long? Photo credit: Ann Froschauer/USFWS
Photo 3 - Pallid bats: Awesome listeners that use those big ears to detect the footsteps of their prey on the ground. Swooping in silently from above, these larger bats often eat scorpions and centipedes, crickets, grasshoppers and beetles.Photo credit: Ann Froschauer/USFWS
Photo 4: Spotted bats: Have the largest ears of any North American species, and those pearly pink ears and black and white spotted fur give it a very distinctive look. This bat also has one of the only echolocation calls that humans can hear. Photo credit: Paul Cryan
Photo 5: Hawaiian hoary bats: are the only land mammal native to the Hawaiian islands. The  ‘ope‘ape‘ as it’s called in Hawaii arrived on the islands some 10,000 years ago. That was quite a migration from North America, over 2,400 miles across the ocean! Photo credit: Paul Bonaccorso

So I got a question on ‘how to avoid sameface’ and thought I could do a quick tutorial. And then it took way longer than I thought. Whoops.

Anyway uh, these are some quasi tips/pointers/methods I use to avoiding the dreaded ‘sameface.’ I didn’t get to add it in here, but a lot of it is confidence.

Also—keep in mind that ‘sameface’ is very, very subjective. This is just how I, personally, do it—other artists might have different ideas in character design. I’ve still got a lot to learn myself!

ALSO I TALK WAY TOO MUCH IM SO SORRY

In middle school I went to a charter school for G/T kids and we used the word Webster’s as an insult for someone being obvious and redundant (“don’t be such a webster’s” I kid you not) since Webster’s dictionaries often used recursive definitions (e.g. “magical, n. of or relating to magic,” etc) and I bring this up because this article is about how dictionary definitions are dry and clinical (possibly to the point of inaccuracy?) and how the original Webster’s dictionary conveyed the subtlety of English better, perhaps (which in light of my middle school experience just amuses me).

There’s also instructions on how to add Webster’s 1913 edition to like… Mac, iPhone, Android, and Kindle so that’s fairly interesting, I might have to do that just for contrast’s and curiosity’s sake.
