God I love dagged sleeves.  Almost as much as I love slashed ones.  I just want to dag and slash everything I can get my hands on.

I’ve wanted Maleficent to be the first villain in the series for a while now, ever since I made the mental leap between Maleficent’s horns and 15th century horned hennins.  The time period works out pretty well, actually, since I wanted her to look a little more dated than Aurora’s 1480’s getup- both houppelandes and horned hennins were all the rage during the early- to mid-1400’s, and they make for pretty good analogues to her official costuming.  Sexy stuff.

This proves more than any of the previous pieces that these are adaptations, not improvements.  I mean, look at the original Maleficent design- how does one improve on PERFECTION

Some colors just for fun

Also I wanted to test out my Frenden brushes for inking so I did and then colored in Photoshop though I should color in Manga Studio because I can now…

I kinda miss having rats they’re so adorable but honestly they don’t live long enough and are very work-intensive and I could possibly deal with one but both? Not really :/ But still they’re so cute

I don’t really feel like I’m a huge Trek fan but it was definitely the background of my childhood, considering that my dad considers himself a Trekker (and he will correct you– he’s a Trekker and more interested in the universe as a whole than the show itself necessarily though you can show him any given 5 seconds of any TOS episode and he’ll name it and the season). My mom watched a bit, too, but I always associated Trek with my dad (possibly because I had a stay at home dad so a bunch of my early memories involve him more than my mom). Also all the new series came out in the 90’s when I was growing up…

I feel like that’s probably why I still think about Star Trek even though I feel like I shouldn’t really considering I haven’t watched most of the series since I saw them the first time around

Anyway I should get to work

The progressive values of the show seem to have faltered—and even started falling behind the mainstream—by failing to add LGBT members to the crew of the Enterprise.

The Pied Piper is actually one of my favorite fairytales, probably because as a young kid I saw the amazing and delightfully creepy Faerie Tale Theatre version with Eric Idle (side note: I highly recommend Faerie Tale Theatre).

I feel like in one of the poems he’s mentioned as having clothing in an old style so I decided to make some sort of pseudo-seventies look here

I always found the Pied Piper rather creepy as a child, but not because he was evil because he just like… this uncaring force of nature, almost. Those tend to scare me more now, as well.

I tried looking up what pipes of the 13th-14th century would look like and the answer is kinda “whatever it’s pipe-shaped and some are held like a flute but others are not” so I based this on this recorder

Maybe I’ll make this nicer later… I kinda like how it turned out
